Hiiiii, I’m alive, kinda. @marshofsleep‘s update to Quantum Entanglement made me squeak in joy and surprise and mostly out of frustration because I’ve read the E-Mail notification when I was still laying in bed and actually was 10 minutes late to get ready for work AND I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER WORK TO READ IT but wow the waiting was worth it and. thank you for the update marsh. ♥

What are some Soma fics you’d highly recommend? I ask because I saw your list of favored characterization tropes and thought, “…I want these. All of them.”

Yo! Okay, so a couple people asked me for fic recs recently. I’m going to list them here. This is a really prolific fandom and I haven’t even read everything that’s available, so I’d recommend asking other people for recommendations as well!

CANONVERSE (some of these are old because I am old)

  • bite down hard, bite down (makapedia) (explicit smut) Maka vs. her fear of turning into her parents.
  • By Now (makapedia) (mature) Mutual pining.
  • A Sunday Kind of Love and Seven Day Fool (rokkasen) (teen) Maka and Soul grapple with being insecure and in love; comedy.
  • Young and Beautiful (rokkasen) (mature) Future/family fic; comedy.
  • Drown Proof (Poisoned Scarlet) (teen) Soul gets enchanted/possessed by an evil warlock. Horror elements.
  • Strung Out (Poisoned Scarlet) (teen) Soul has to go away for 30 days and Maka pretends it’s totally NBD.
  • love, it only gets in my way (glossier) (teen) Eight times Soul tells Maka he loves her. Humor.
  • I’m Your Man (fabulousanima) (explicit) Out-of-order vignettes based around the lyrics to I’m Your Man.
  • If You Love Me Let Me Know (redphlox) (K+) Another weapon asks Maka out and Soul has to deal with his own jealousy.
  • Your Quietest Feeling (sojustifiable) (explicit) Soul makes an accidental confession. In the wilderness. With nowhere to go.

ALTERNATE UNIVERSE (this fandom loves AUs, so there are a lot of good ones, and this list is even more shamefully incomplete than the last)

  • Phlox (transmigratory) (teen) Florist Maka creates arrangements for her ex-boyfriend’s wedding.
  • The Art of Losing (redphlox) (teen) Anastasia-inspired AU.
  • If Only Tonight We Could Sleep (marshofsleep) (explicit) Zombie apocalypse AU.
  • A Soul Eater in a Pine Tree (marshofsleep) (teen, but there’s an explicit omake published separately) The fic that made me just fuckign accept sentient pine trees.
  • Internuntii and Exemptorii (fabulousanima) (mature) Two years of Resbang AUs based on the two games by Supergiant: Bastion and Transistor.
  • Bad Romance (adulterclavis) (teen) Homage to 10 Things I Hate About You/The Taming of the Shrew. It’s a little hard to explain the chaotic hilarity of this fic ahead of time, but it’s an incredible ride that takes full advantage of Soul Eater’s rich and absurd cast.
  • Didn’t You Flash Your Green Eyes At Me (victoriapyrrhi) (teen) Star Wars AU!
  • Nothing Compares 2 U (makapedia) (explicit) ‘90s AU, skipping between 1998 and 2008.
  • In The Silence I Hear You (skadventuretime) (teen) Your Lie In April AU. This fic makes me angry because I HATE tragedy but it’s literally too good not to recommend – provided you’re a masochist, of course.

If you have ever had any interest or vague involvement in Soul Eater at all, please go read marshofsleep’s fic Quantum Entanglement. It is one of the purest, most delightfully written pieces of work I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I’ve reread it more times than I can count, and the day I don’t cry reading chapter 4 is the day that will be known for the rest of history as “The day liz stopped feeling any human emotion whatsoever,” or, alternatively, the day of my death.

This fic is so important. If you read one thing for the next month and a half, read this.
