tagged here by @jaded-envy, and i may have been tagged by someone else eons ago but i can’t find it anymore.

time to blarg about stuff i’m working on, i suppose?

1) lodestar – this should surprise no one. it’s the one with cowboys that i haven’t updated in like three years but i’m still determined to finish it, by god

2) quantum entanglement – this should also surprise no one. anime trash/world of warcraft au in which maka is a main tank, soul is NOT spec’d for healing but ends up healing her anyway, and mainly focuses on the nature of various relationships over long distances. also soul’s love for cheap fake mexican food.

3) ask no questions – this might surprise a few. it’s a pseudo-au, in which maka realizes she’s living a lie, but can’t remember what the truth is either.

4) siren au – not much to say here. soul is the black guppy of the family and is a pescatarian much to the distress of his traditional man-eating family.

5) vampire au – a sitcom-esque comedy in which soul is a (mostly) human who looks like his vampire brother, maka is the daughter of a prestigious vampire who looks like a girl scout and has a mild case of what i can only call the blood-sucking equivalent to celiac disease. Maka is assigned through a government-assisted vampire placement service to live with half-breed soul because his blood won’t damage her internal organs. tl;dr they become reluctant roommates, vigilantes keep trying to assassinate soul coz he looks scary, but they totally ignore maka so she kicks all their asses.

6) top secret au – i mean. like it says. =3c

7) lawgiver – my original fic. i’m not sure how to even describe it, but i’m aiming for a low-key-dystopian, science fiction retelling of the story of moses? but with clones? idk. i haven’t figured it all out yet. there’s a lot of elemental-calling and guns and mass murder and clones and trying to understand what defines a soul and how far one can go without it.

this year isn’t/wasn’t one i would call a happy fun time, and i didn’t get to write even a fraction as much as i had not only *intended*, but even just the barebone minimum i think i need just to feel like a person

upside, i did more digital arting than usual, so that’s something. have some gratuitous thumbnails.

1) the one fic i updated

i updated QE once. it has a lot of feelings. i wrote a few other things but my levels of investment pale in comparison to QE

2) this little angel soul doodle

which isn’t a masterpiece in any shape or form but it spawned a LOT of worldbuilding and madi knows the big hell tableflip of my heart

3) this present for eis

i’m not happy with soul and maka at all but you know what? this path.
i love this path a lot, forget the rest, i like the dirt. i missed painting things that aren’t, like, people

4) i had a nightmare (again)

it’s probably common knowledge; i have bad dreams on a regular basis, but sometimes they give good creative fodder. also it was nice to do something abstract again 

5) the bat witch

i had tried making the bat witch from Ask No Questions on 4 separate occasions – i wanted her to be human enough to know what she’s thinking but not human enough to give you a sense of the inevitable– but that’s really hard to do when you hobble yourself with references because you think you’re worthless and have no inherent vision. at wit’s end, i said fuck off to references and just made some strokes in grey and said that’s it, you don’t get anything else, put on your big fungus pants and get to work. is this totally polished? no. do i totally polish anything? no, and i keep forgetting and i need to stop beating myself up over it because it’s only the overall impression that matters, the foundation, the frame. fuck you reference folder, i use u, i don’t rely on u

i’ve been kinda MIA lately but i’ve been tagged by like five people so ok here we go

10 things about me, and 5 otps. 

1. i absolutely hate being tickled

2. i’m allergic to weed

3. the original story i’m trying to write has been growing and mutating in my head for nearly 20 years

6. evidently there is a large octave gap between my speaking voice and my ‘omg that is an adorable cat/dog/animal’ voice which i was unaware of until y’all pointed it out >.>

Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

AHahah um. yes. hell, just people I see in town all the time helped inspire Lodestar. tina thompson in particular is a conglomerate of many women i’ve known in my life.

What do you like best about this fic? 

HANDS DOWN, the reviews i get from other country people. when they read it and tell me that it makes them homesick, or it reminds them of growing up in rural nature– that kind of thing just makes me so happy. that i’ve conveyed where i love enough for them to be able to see it themselves BLOWS MY MIND

Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?

gosh i don’t know. considering the story isn’t finished yet, we’ll leave that up in the air, haha. i guess for the time being, maybe how obnoxious horses are

ahhh, toss up between ‘He’s stolen fire and brought the clay of her heart to life’ or ‘At the bottom of Pandora’s urn is Maka’

What part was hardest to write? 

the escape from the luxor. i rewrote it twice– one version had completely wrong exhibits inside the hotel because lol outdated information, and the other included using B*’s exploding prosthesis to bust through the pyramid and had maka sliding down the side of it like every vegas stunt you’ve ever seen. i couldn’t get all the puzzle pieces to fit well enough to warrant that cliche, and thank god because it makes me cringe now

What do you like best about this fic? 

you mean apart from how ridiculously well it’s been received despite my having zero expectations??? probably black*star. i really got to play around with his character in this story and it brought me so much joy.

What did you learn from writing this fic?

ahah shit uh, well?? i learned about the hierarchy of angels, greek mythology, and how to stab someone to death. also probably more information than i ever wanted to know about deep cycle batteries. 

i also learned sometimes there’s a story in you even when you didn’t expect one to be there. i mean the fic came from a one-word prompt for a porn week. i just didn’t want there to be another smut story about screaming during sex, so…clearly the answer was ….zombies?? i don’t even -like- zombie stories. Weird Shit Happened, and now it’s an Inkitt winner and real people pay real monies to print a hard copy of it. i just– i’m as confused as you are

i learned that you can write a fanfiction that somehow stretches beyond the fandom and is able to touch people who have no context or knowledge of the source content. and enjoy it. i just don’t understand

….iotwcs is also how Boy of Sleep found out i write fic and began supporting me, and so it is the story that i learned he is the best boy i will ever, ever have.
