mm, in the very early early start, it was just testing my hand at a fic in which in-universe Maka had very little experience with xmas because she’s a death child, and Soul, former rich kid from the …well slightly more ‘normal’ world, loved the fuck outta xmas so the setup was just gonna be like, idk, ‘five things soul evans taught maka about christmas’ or whatever. and like the first scene was him finding out she’d never put up a tree before, but then i had that Moment where i was like, wait

what if he is the tree

and then i talked to the old-old forum chatbox about it and @darkpurply was like DO IT, so that was the end of that

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
a couple things, i guess. evidently a writer can get away with a lot of weird-ass shit as long as the characters act as freaked out about it as the reader, lol. i learned i like xmas a lot more than i thought i did. i learned about having a sort-of game plan (using the song lyric puns as a kind of outline for the story) and that making one wasn’t impossible for me. i also learned the fucking satisfaction of having a completed fic that i can release in intervals with zero stress and DAMN. I WISH I COULD DO THAT ALL THE TIME, HECC
