actually getting a text message for ISS sightings over your city is a thing. you can check out if the space station will be going over your area and sign up for notifications here

I’ve pulled off the highway to watch it before. It’s super cool.
Bonus: if you go to somewhere with really low light pollution and when the moon isn’t very full, just lay back and watch the sky. Relax your eyes and you’ll see quite a few satellites. They’ll be the slow moving ones that aren’t air planes 😉
